Client Details

At Redbridge Alternative Provision (RAP), they aim to provide high-quality education which is tailored, inclusive and inspiring for young people who are at risk of permanent exclusion or for those who have been permanently excluded. Running parallel to this is a programme of wrap-around pastoral care, ensuring students’ emotional and social needs are met.

At RAP, students are challenged to take responsibility, modify their behaviour, improve their attitudes towards school life, and make academic progress across the range and breadth of curriculum opportunities available. In addition to classroom-based learning, students are provided with enrichment opportunities throughout the academic year.

They respect that all their young people are individuals from diverse backgrounds and life experiences. They passionately believe that by assisting them to overcome their personal barriers, they should be entitled to access the full range of opportunities available in society.

Overview

Redbridge needed additional accommodation to cope with increasing student numbers and chose GCS to provide a brand new single storey building to provide new classrooms, 1 to 1 Rooms and a multi-use games area commonly known as a MUGA pitch. The project was a complex one and posed a few challenges for the facility management who were keen to find a modular supplier who had wide experience in offering full turnkey services to remove the very real potential for disaster in a project that needed careful project management.

Key Issues Faced Client

Our client faced significant challenges, including space design and planning, necessary groundworks, and the complexities of delivery and installation in a busy location with students on-site. Additional hurdles included arranging a road closure for crane access, as well as managing a tight budget, strict timelines, and access constraints. GCS took full control, expertly handling every aspect of the project. With seamless project management, the client had complete peace of mind—everything was managed efficiently by the GCS team!

What GCS Did

From the outset, we collaborated closely with RAP to ensure that both the external and internal finishes created a bright, airy environment and an optimal learning space. Their specific requirements for space and internal fittings were carefully identified and integrated into the plan. As a full turn-key project, GCS took on a range of responsibilities, including coordinating a full road closure, managing the logistics of multiple unit deliveries, arranging an on-site crane for installation of the modules, ensuring all operational on-site staff passed DBS checks if working while students were present, complying with building regulations, and overseeing groundworks, including the MUGA pitch.

Redbridge now boasts a brand-new, purpose-built facility that was successfully completed on time and within budget, despite numerous challenges. The addition of the multi-use games area is especially valuable, providing a year-round space for outdoor sports and activities.
