Their dedicated Seymour Skills Academy offers in-house training on an 11-acre simulated construction site. They also extend their training services to industry peers, ensuring award-winning programs help bridge the sector's existing skills gap. In partnership with local higher education institutions and employment agencies, they provide training and hands-on experience for underrepresented and unemployed groups, leading many toward career opportunities in civil engineering and construction.
In 2023, Seymour approached GCS to explore the possibility of establishing a cost-effective, in-house training facility on their 11-acre construction training site. Their vision was to create a government-funded training centre at their Hartlepool location, offering high-quality training to industry peers. The goal was to bridge the industry's skills gap while generating employment opportunities in construction and civil engineering.
Seymour encountered several challenges in bringing their vision to life, including securing project approval, obtaining funding, and navigating planning permission for the buildings. Once approvals were in place, they faced a tight deadline to execute the project efficiently.
GCS collaborated closely with Seymour to fully understand their specific requirements and ensure the training facility was tailored to their needs. We designed the buildings to accommodate all functional and operational expectations while staying within budget constraints. The structures were pre-fabricated off-site to minimize disruption, then transported and installed on-site, resulting in the creation of the bespoke Seymour Civil Engineering – Skills Training Academy.
The new two-story training facility is a bright and modern space designed to accommodate the next generation of construction professionals. As with all GCS modular builds, the facility was custom-designed with client input at every stage, ensuring it met their exact specifications. Delivered on time and within budget, this facility will serve as a valuable resource for developing well-trained construction professionals, helping to address the ongoing skills shortage in the industry for years to come.
