Welfare Units in the Rail & Construction Sector

Why they really matter?

A good place to start is probably the fact that they are a legal requirement!

UK legislation dictates that every member of staff has the right to a 20-minute break, in a suitable environment, every 6 hours whilst at work, so that’s a pretty compelling reason.

However, it clearly makes really good sense to look after your workforce in any event.

Firstly, because they are one of your most valuable assets, secondly, it is proven that happy, cared for employees are more productive – happy staff stay with the Company and work harder – fact.

It makes good sense therefore to provide a comfortable, well-equipped environment for your employees to relax and recover, preferably with access to fresh water, decent facilities and somewhere comfortable to sit on their breaks and at mealtimes.

The space should ideally also be secure enough to accommodate personal belongings and a change of clothes, if necessary, provide shelter from extreme weather with electricity for that all important brew and probably vandal proof if in a remote or dodgy location.

Critically they should be portable to allow easy transportation to new locations.

That’s a pretty big list of internal requirements, then throw in the structure itself, traditional build?, steel clad?, vandal proof?, number of windows and doors?, connection to utilities?, portability?, and you have a few decisions to consider.

If you need a hand to make the right decisions, then please call one of the friendly project team at GCS Cabins.
